"My aunt and uncle were able to watch their wedding from 1965 like it was taped a few years ago, not 40. Next time I go home I'm going to bring back the remaining film reels and give them a TON of business."

We are a leading photo, slide, and negative scanning service used by professionals for slide conversion, photo conversion, negative scanning, and photo archiving.

Resolution
Resolution is the density of detail in an image expressed in terms of pixels per inch (ppi). Higher resolution means better quality prints and increased capacity for enlargement. But it also means larger file sizes that are more costly to create and more difficult to manage.

The options for resolution are Standard, High, and Pro.

Standard Resolution is suitable for slide shows, email & web applications, and photo-quality printing without enlargement.

High Resolution is best for archiving and enlarged photo-quality printing.

Pro Resolution is for large format printing and high-end graphics work.

It may be advantageous to scan at High or Pro resolution even if you don't plan to make enlargements. More resolution gives you reserve should you need to zoom in or enlarge a portion of an image. Also, note that an image's resolution can easily be reduced, but it can never be increased without rescanning.

For relative file sizes for different resolution, compression levels, and image formats, please refer to the resolution table.

Dust & Scratch Removal
Prior to scanning we carefully clean your materials with filtered compressed air. Even so, most negatives and slides will have some degree of surface defect, depending on age and care of treatment.

Original Image

After CleanScan

We recommend using our CleanScan service to remove these defects.

CleanScan applies a sophisticated optical technology that "sees through" dust and scratches to produce an almost flawless digital image.

If CleanScan is not applied, you will get some evidence of scratches and dust particles on negatives and slides regardless of the age of the film. This is caused by the development process, and by the use of plastic sleeves, among other things.

Please note that CleanScan DOES NOT work for black & white negatives and slides!
This means that you can expect some scratches and dust particles (electrostatically clinging to the film that our cleaning process cannot remove) to be evident. These can all be removed easily by us through retouching them using Adobe Photoshop at an additional cost using our restoration service.

Composition Enhancement
Photos, slides, and negatives deteriorate with age. Colors shift, fade, and become grainy. We use a variety of automated tools to restore the original colors and composition.

Learn how SmoothScan removes grain and restores original textures.
Note: This process is semi-automated and is performed as a restoration service and is charged as such.

More Service Options and Information for Professionals

Regular Vs. Economy Scan
Both options use the same equipment and produce the same high-quality scans.
However, in Regular Scan we perform the following finishing procedures:

• Image rotation to the correct orientation
• De-skewing (leveling the image)
• Cropping any visible border effect
• Color correction
• Detailed quality check

Economy scanning is a good option if you’re proficient with computer multimedia editing software and intend to manipulate and finish the images yourself.

The Economy and Regular scanning options work the same way in the new PickleScan photo scanning service.

File Formats
We normally convert your files to JPEG with low compression (high quality). JPEG is the standard format for consumer printing labs, digital cameras, and most digital picture devices. Lower compression and higher quality JPEG (Photoshop level 12) is available upon request. This level of compression is only slightly lower than 8bit TIFF.

We also provide 8bit and 16bit TIFF formats.

For relative file sizes for different resolution, compression levels, and image formats, please refer to the resolution table.
